Nelson Emerson U11 Tournament
Submitted By Mark Stephens on Wed 02 23, 22
The Simcoe Warriors Team 1 (Great Lakes Rehabilitation) finally participated in their first tournament this year.

Everyone was very excited after Covid cancelled the January tournament.   After braving the elements for a very early 7 am game we found out our opponents from Cayuga, after trying to get to Waterford under less than ideal road conditions, had to turn back and cancel their tournament for the weekend.  The team used the ice time as an impromptu practice with the first "win" under their belt.   Later that morning, after a couple of hours to mentally prepare for the next game, the team scored a win (3-1) against our southern neighbour Port Dover Pirates 1.   With the recent win still in their thoughts another big win (5 - 3) against Waterford Wildcats Black meant an undefeated record and a berth in the semi-finals the next day.   Another early game (8 am) was the first of two semifinals.  The Warriors, first in their pool, played Twin Centre Stars (2nd in Pool B).  The Warriors worked hard so the goalie could record a shutout win (3 - 0) on their way to the finals.  Of course they had to await the result of the other semi- final (Port Dover 1 vs Waterford Yellow).   The showdown at high noon was Simcoe vs the hometown Wildcats Yellow.  What a game!  Lots of action kept the nail biter close (2 - 1) with Waterford keeping the cup at home.   We are so proud of our Warriors.  Hold your heads high tournament Finalists with your silver medals.   Yay Simcoe Warriors!!
