Dear
Members,
As you may
be aware, the recent 2020 Norfolk County Budget included measures taken
affecting our community arenas. These decisions include permanently closing
the Simcoe Rec Centre Arena effective May 2020 and also looking to secure the
private management of one or more of the other Norfolk arenas. If such
private arena management isn’t in place by September 2020 a second Norfolk
arena will be closed.
Your SDMHA Board is extremely concerned with these decisions and the impact they will have on our future hockey programming. Find attached a letter sent to Norfolk Council, expressing our primary concerns and requesting that these changes be put on hold so that we can work together to find a better path forward.
