OMHA Approves Partnership Agreement

It’s been a discussion point amongst a number of hockey associations within Norfolk County for the past few years. What can we do to improve the sport of hockey for ‘everyone’?  For the minor hockey associations of Waterford, Simcoe and Port Dover a REP Partnership Agreement was created to do just that; deliver improvements to hockey programming for all.

On January 29, 2020 – the OMHA APPROVED the REP Partnership Proposal. This decision allows for the creation of Norfolk Minor Hockey (NMH) for the 2020/2021 season.  OMHA also confirmed that NMH will be categorized as an “A” hockey centre.

Norfolk Minor Hockey will compliment the existing hockey associations of Waterford, Simcoe and Port Dover and allow us to provide a comprehensive hockey program that will satisfy the needs off ALL hockey players and ensure our players have fun and maximize development.  Further, this change will provide a higher level of competitive hockey in Norfolk and will result in greater player retention, attraction of new players from outside our area, and will keep our players playing longer, thereby increasing enrollment immediately and growing it further in the longer term.

The REP Partnership Working group will move quickly onto the next set of actions necessary to ensure the success of Norfolk Minor Hockey. Those steps are set out below for your information and we will keep you informed as we move along. It is extremely important that all understand how this new hockey program model works so that you make informed decisions with respect to your opportunities and options.

The Minor Hockey Associations of Simcoe, Waterford and Port Dover would like to thank everyone who took the time to listen, learn and understand why this is an important step for minor hockey in Norfolk County.
